When will my merchant cash advance (MCA) be paid off? And if I want out early, how much would it take?

You can estimate both with a few numbers from your contract and your bank account.

Want it done for you? Plug your numbers into the [MCA calculator](/mca-calculator). Want to understand the math? Keep reading.

## What you need

Grab these four numbers:

1. **Advance amount** — what the funder gave you (from the contract)
2. **Factor rate** — like 1.30, 1.40, 1.49
3. **Payment amount** — your daily or weekly debit
4. **Paid so far** — add up cleared debits from your bank

---

## Calculation 1: Total payback

> **Total payback = advance × factor rate**

**Example:** $30,000 × 1.38 = **$41,400**

---

## Calculation 2: What's left

> **Remaining ≈ total payback − paid so far**

**Example:** You've paid $16,400.

$41,400 − $16,400 = **$25,000 left**

---

## Calculation 3: Payments left

> **Payments left ≈ remaining ÷ payment amount**

**Example:** Daily payment is $460.

$25,000 ÷ $460 ≈ **55 business days**

---

## Calculation 4: Estimated payoff date

Count forward that many **business days** from today. Skip weekends and bank holidays (funders usually can't debit on those).

- 55 business days ≈ **11 weeks**
- If today is November 2, your estimated last payment is around **mid-January**

**Weekly payments?** Payments left = weeks left. 20 payments left = about 20 weeks.

**Percent of sales?** Your payment changes with sales, so the date moves too. Use your **average** daily debit over the last 30 days for a rough estimate.

---

## Calculation 5: What early payoff could look like

This depends 100% on your contract. There are three common setups:

**1. No early payoff discount**
You owe the full remaining amount. In our example, **$25,000**, whether you pay today or over 11 weeks.

**2. Fixed discount**
Some contracts knock off a set amount or percent if you pay early.
Example: 10% off the remaining balance → $25,000 × 0.90 = **$22,500**

**3. Discount schedule by date**
Some contracts give a bigger discount the earlier you pay off (for example, within 30, 60, or 90 days of funding).

Read the **"prepayment"** or **"early payoff"** section of your contract. If you can't find it, ask the funder.

**Important:** Early payoff with no discount usually saves you nothing. It just moves the payments up. Only an actual discount lowers what you pay.

## Full worked example

| | Amount |
|---|---|
| Advance | $30,000 |
| Factor rate | 1.38 |
| Total payback | $41,400 |
| Paid so far | $16,400 |
| **Remaining (estimate)** | **$25,000** |
| Daily payment | $460 |
| Payments left | ~55 business days |
| Estimated payoff date | ~11 weeks out |
| Early payoff with 10% discount (if contract allows) | ~$22,500 |

(Example numbers only.)

## Why your estimate can be off

- **Bounced payments** and returned-payment fees
- **Paused or reduced payments** (reconciliation)
- **Payments still in transit** on the funder's side
- **Fees** you didn't account for

Always use your estimate as a check — not as the final number.

---

## Get the real payoff in writing

Before you send any payoff money, ask your funder for a **written payoff letter** that shows:

- The exact payoff amount
- The date it's good through
- Payment instructions
- Any discount applied

Then compare it to your estimate. If it's way off, ask for a payment history and check it against your bank.

After you pay, **watch your bank account** for a couple of weeks. There should be no more debits from that funder.
